Burgh Castle

Until 1974 Burgh Castle was a Suffolk village but, when local authorities decided to straighten out the county boundary, it found itself in the county of Norfolk.

One of Britain's best preserved relics of the Roman era stands near the centre of Burgh Castle. Near where the pleasure crafts are moored lay the Roman galleys. These once waited here to be refitted and were then sent out again to guard the coast from unwanted vessels from the Continent.

Today Burgh Castle is a very popular holiday spot with an array of caravan camps and a busy yacht marina.
